Located in La Grande Oregon the Blue Mountain Interagency Fire Center is the home for the Blue Mountain Interagency Dispatch Center, the La Grande Air Tanker Base and the La Grande Fire Cache.

The Blue Mountain Interagency Dispatch Center (BMIDC) is the interagency focal point for coordinating the mobilization of resources for wildland fire, wildland fire use, prescribed fire and other all-risk incidents throughout Northeast Oregon and Southeast Washington.

The Dispatch Center also provides Intelligence and Predictive Services related-products to support wildland fire managers and firefighters throughout BMIDC's zone of influence.

:Wallowa Whitman Fire Area Closures - Salmon, Olive Butte, and Anthony Fire Areas Important News!

BMIDC - Due to increasing Wild Fire Activity, Public Safety Closures are now if effect for the Salmon, Olive Butte, and Anthony Fire Areas on the Wallowa Whitman National Forest effective Tuesday, July 14th, 2026 through December 31st 2026 unless rescinded sooner.

These closure orders have been implemented to protect the public from wildfire hazards and to provide firefighters with the operational space needed to safely and effectively conduct suppression operations.
The public is asked to respect all closure orders, boundaries and posted signs. Entering these closed areas poses a significant safety risk to the public and to emergency personnel and may delay firefighting efforts.

Fire Danger Level Increases to High on ODF Protected Lands in Northeast Oregon District Important News!

BMIDC - Increase to High Fire Danger

La Grande, OR - The risk of wildfires is increasing rapidly due to warmer and drier weather. In response, the Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) for the Northeast Oregon District is implementing High Fire Restrictions on land they protect, effective at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, June 19, 2026. The primary goal of these additional fire prevention measures is to reduce the risk of human-caused fires. "Forecasts indicate that we will experience typical summer weather in the coming weeks, accompanied by elevated temperatures. Given these conditions and the escalating fire danger, we are enforcing stricter fire restrictions," stated Justin Lauer, District Forester.

Extreme Drought Statement Issued For Eastern Oregon Mountains into Central Oregon Important News!

BMIDC - Extreme drought has expanded throughout the eastern Oregon mountains and into central Oregon and the central Oregon Cascades while the rest of the area has a mix of mainly abnormally dry to severe drought.

Well below normal precipitation (50% or less of normal) in most areas over the last 30 days. Below to near normal precipitation (50% to 100% of normal) in eastern Wallowa, southern Union, western Grant, eastern Crook, southeastern Deschutes and northeast Columbia counties over the last 30 days.
Drought is expected to persist or develop across the entire area through the end of September 2026.
All areas are forecast to have above normal significant fire potential from now through September 2026.
